WIEDERGEBOREN

Happy Easter!

My Friend, the things that do attain
Written by Martial (1st sec. AD)
Translated by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1516-1547)

My friend, the things that do attain
The happy life be these, I find:
The riches left, not got with pain;
The fruitful ground; the quiet mind;

The equal friend; no grudge; no strife;
No charge of rule, nor governance;
Without disease, the healthy life;
The household of continuance;

The mean diet, no dainty fare;
Wisdom joined with simpleness;
The night discharged of all care,
Where wine the wit may not oppress:

The faithful wife, without debate;
Such sleeps as may beguile the night;
Content thyself with thine estate,
Neither wish death, nor fear his might.

Meu amigo, as coisas que conduzem (A vida feliz)
Escrito por Marcial (I sec. DC)
Traduzido por Henry Howard, Conde de Surrey (1516-1547)

Meu amigo, as coisas que conduzem
À vida feliz são estas, creio eu:
Riquezas à disposição, não obtidas com dor;
O solo fértil; a mente quieta;

O amigo constante; sem rancor; sem contenda;
Sem lei ou governo opressores;
Sem doença, a vida saudável;
A perpetuação da família;

A dieta frugal, sem pratos requintados;
Sabedoria aliada à simplicidade;
A noite livre de qualquer vigilância,
Onde o vinho à inteligência oprimir não pode:

A esposa fiel, sem discussões;
À noite, agradável sono dormir;
Contenta-te com teu quinhão,
Nem deseje a morte, nem a tema.

GAURA PURNIMA 2021

Sri Gaura Purnima is the auspicious appearance day of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who is also known as Gauranga due to His golden complexion. This festival also marks the beginning of the New Year for Gaudiya Vaishnavas.

As stated in the scriptures, the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna appeared as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to establish Sankirtana (chanting of the Holy Names) – the Yuga Dharma for this age of Kali. He appeared on Phalguni Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Phalguna, (Feb-March) in the year 1486 AD (1407 Shakabda) at Sridham Mayapura as the son of Sri Jagannath Mishra and Srimati Sachidevi. His parents named Him Nimai since He was born under a Nimba (neem) tree in the courtyard of His paternal house.

This year we are celebrating the 534th anniversary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s appearance on March 28, 2021.
